Small interview our personal head & shoulders Preddy did back in 2006 with Euan Fryer (Jazzmans Records/UK) for the austrian “The Message” Magazine…..

1. when did this diggin illeness started?
E.F.: I started going to Cancer Research shops and jumble sales when I was
pretty young, younger than nine.

2. favourite styles/sounds? did they changed over the years?
E.F.: My taste always changes one month im collecting folk Lps the next im
buying African 45s or Deep Soul, funk45 ismy main area of interest. I
think it would be to boring for me to collect one genre, im not a
stamp collector im a music lover and whenever I hear something new I
like ive got to find more.

3. favourite diggin spots? fleamarket, shops, city, country…
E.F.: Utrect record fair is great fun, and the flea markets in new York
always turn up lots of great battered records. Ebay may not be
popular but ive got amazing record of there cheap I could have spent
a lifetime looking for.

4. what makes an record interesting for you? label, artist, musicans…
E.F.: Well it has to be good, a tasty label is nice but no good if the record is shit.

5. collecter, producer, dj? are any differences when you dig for
sampling/producing, deejaying or collecting…
E.F. There is a difference as you will look for maybe a break or a sample
if you’re a producer and a dj will look for whole tracks he can play,
most of the great drum breaks don’t come from great records.

6. best dig/s, cheapest price for a rare record? where, if you can
remember?
E.F.: Cheapest rare record would probably be stuff I picked up while
licencing music from the original artists and they have given me a
copy. I picked up some nice fela stuff for like 20p each when I was a
alot younger, I though it was disco till I listened to it.

7. diggin tip
E.F.:  Talk to people, and enjoy talking to people. Talking to people will
get you places you had not heard off and that’s the way to find good
records. Ohh and hard work, get up early!!
